Clashing continues

As the rumours regarding a protester who died due to excessive force used by the police on August 31 at Prince Edward MTR station, the animosity between the police and protesters intensifies. With the HKPF and MTR authorities refusing to publicize the video tapes for that night, the suspicions grows with the Hong Kong people and the outcries become louder. The police also intensified their actions in deterring protesters, but have also turned their attention on innocent bystanders and the press.

Over the weekend as protesters gather around a popular shopping district at Causeway Bay, the police complained about the crowd size and being assaulted by laser pointers. As a result, HKPF decided to use tear gas and pepper spray to deter the crowds. However, there were many bystanders that were visiting the popular district who were cornered by the police as well and had to endure the suffocating chemicals.

Meanwhile in Mong Kok, the press were mistreated by the police as they had to endure verbal assaults and pepper spray for trying to maintain their position and freedom to cover the events that unfolded. The police claimed this was their way to ensure the press maintained a safe distance and was for their protection.

Thousands of people gathered and marched on September 8th to the U.S. Consulate in Central in an attempt to plea with United States to help Hong Kong maintain its autonomous status. As well as, urging Congress to pass the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Acts that will enable U.S. to financially punish those that are eroding Hong Kong’s democratic rights.
