Strong Spirits

After a brief of period of calmness since the district elections, this weekend marked the 26th consecutive weekend of public demonstrations by the people of Hong Kong. Protesters are committed to their five demands and refuse to back down with simple wins against the Pro-Beijing government. Over 300,000 people came out to support the rally and the police provided its approval by issuing their non-objecting letter.

The march comprised of peaceful protesters voicing their demands and concerns, however after the march began and there was a large turnout, the police revoked their non-objecting notice and decides to deploy tear gas onto crowds with children and elders participating.

Throughout the day there were numerous incidents of brutality by the police, from using pepper spray in close proximity to using tear gas on children and seniors.

As night time comes police’s confrontations increases as they began randomly searching people on the streets or detaining people without violating any laws.

It was especially bad in areas in Mong Kok and Whampoa, where officers were seen stepping onto private property to confront residents gathering outside and also deploying tear gas in residential areas.

As we enter December, the people of Hong Kong shows they won’t give up so easily and they will not be deterred by coercion. The spirit of Hong Kong is at its all time highest as the most of the people are uniting to fight for their own freedom and autonomy.
