Perseverance

As the Hong Kong protests reached the 20th consecutive week, Hong Kongers have become more vocal in their displeasure with their government and the sphere of influence under the Communist Party. With the public masks ban enacted recently and Hong Kong rights activist Jimmy Sham attacked by mercenaries with hammers, people are becoming more outraged by the public display of violence, attempting to coerce citizens into retreating and staying silent. This weekend four pan-democratic legislators called upon the people of Hong Kong for another public march, showing support and re-affirming their desire for the five demands.

After the attack on Jimmy Sham last week, there were fake dubious online posts blaming the attack on South-Asian thugs and calling for people to seek revenge on them via their mosque and at the Chung King building where a lot of them reside and operate small businesses. However, the online forum LIHKG quickly condemned these posts suggesting they were fake news and is another attempt by the government to divide the people internally. Hence this weekend, South Asian residents of the Chung King Building handed out water bottles in support of Hong Kong protesters, showing solidarity with the people of Hong Kong.

Despite the peaceful march taking place with people only chanting slogans, and calling for the government to meet their five demands. The Hong Kong police once again leveraging their advanced denial of the march, used the excuse of unlawful assembly to deter people and break up the massive groups of people in attendance. Reverting to their typical tactics of armed officers of rifles with rubber bullets, along with their water cannon forced people to disperse.

It is especially disappointing to see the police continuously intimidate the press for live reporting at the scenes. Using water cannon at a close distance despite no gathering in the vicinity and freely using tear gas aimed at reporters with no rationale.

When confronted by the press why they are not identifying themselves, the police use all types of excuses to avoid addressing the issue.

In another display of outrageous behaviour of the Hong Kong Police the water cannon truck terrorizing the streets of Hong Kong also took aim at a local mosque with their blue-dyed chemical fluid. Possibly to seek vengeance for their support of the Hong Kong protests. It has caused outrage amongst the Muslim population residing in Hong Kong, especially with the Muslim Uyghurs currently being oppressed in mainland China.

Despite this egregious behaviour of the Hong Kong Police, the people of Hong Kong bounded together to help clean up to Mosque, reciprocating the support shown by their fellow Hong Kong residents.

The Hong Kong government along with their badge carrying thugs proclaimed as police officers continue to suppress its people’s freedom of speech and using various mafia-like tactics to coerce people into silence and submission. However, they should have known better than to treat the Hong Kong people as such, because with the Lion Rock mentality Hong Kongers will continue to be relentless and persevere through all hard ships to reach their ultimate goal: return the governance of Hong Kong back to Hong Kong people.
