National Mourning

While the Communist Party celebrates its 70th Anniversary in Beijing, the people of Hong Kong mourns for its future as their rights are slipping away to pave way for the regime. People all over Hong Kong organized protests at districts all around the city with the main rally taking place in Causeway Bay, led by pro-democractic legislators. With anticipation of this, police refuse to sanction the gatherings, working with MTR (subway system) to interrupt key routes by shutting down subway stops or setting road blocks. At checkpoints all around the city, police officers randomly searches cars and buses to identify potential “rioters,” arresting them in advance. Despite all this, thousands still came out to voice their demands.

Using illegal assembly as an excuse the police once again fired hundreds of tear gas canisters to disburse people while around different districts in the city, protesters and officers clashed physically.

All together there were 6 bullets fired on this day, 5 of them were warning shots to scare protesters but unfortunately, one shot hit a 15 year old in the chest.

The teenager was taken to the hospital and was admitted to Intensive Care Unit, but luckily reports have come out that he is in stable condition. Police continue to defend their actions as justified, even attempting to spin the story by saying they hit the protester in the shoulder. In fact, x-ray scan showed it missed the heart by 3mm and punctured the lungs.

A full video below shows the lack of urgency by the police after the protester was shot. Despite repeated please from the victim to be taken to the hospital, and the police also denied him access to volunteer medics that were on-site.

Throughout the rest of the city, people continue to stand up to the police who refuses to let people to gather by arresting them or inflicting physical violence. Being fed up, people fought back and use various methods to keep the police away.

Despite the police’s persecution, protesters continued to gather and stand united by setting up road blocks and barriers to hold their positions. However, they once again display their morals by letting other emergency vehicles through avoiding holding up innocent lives.

While China continues to ignore the situation in Hong Kong and rather then addressing the issues, they employ scare tactics to deter people, instilling fear for their obedience. Hong Kongers continue to show their resiliency and determination in their fight for democracy.
