Fighting Back

After 11 days of calm and continual silence from the Hong Kong government, protesters return on the street in Kwun Tong, a largely residential and office area. Hong Kong Police Force has been heavily scrutinized for their brutality, especially employing tactical force members. As a result protesters are fighting back, refusing to be abused anymore.

Despite so, various forms of police brutality continue to be prevalent throughout the protests

The police force has been using the term “cockroach” to describe any protesters. Even using the term in front of public media. The first step towards devaluing a person’s life is drawing association to them as pests. A strategy that was used in Nazi propaganda, and genocide of tribes in Rwanda. People become more ruthless when they no longer recognize others as human beings.

“get out of here cockroaches”
power tripping

An award-winning journalist from New York Times summed it all:

State media fabricates a false narrative to blame protesters of disrupting peace and order of the city. Rather these “rioters” are protecting the rights of the people and preserving the independent rule of law they so desperately seek. They aren’t looking for fame, they are seeking justice.
